Many will say Donald Trump built his presidency through racism, sexism, and bigotry. His presidential win apparently signaled to many of his supporters that it is open season on minorities. The sheer volume of hate crimes since he was elected spiked. Hundreds if not thousands of explicit hate crimes against all minorities including but not limited to Latinos, African-Americans, Muslims, and Asians-Americans have been reported across the country. In many cases, law enforcement refused to step in.

The most disturbing of these hate crimes is the fact that most of them are being committed by children and young adults in school. Statistically, the number of people committing hate crimes in K-12th grade and even college universities has skyrocketed despite their respective administrations trying to keep the peace.

Just some of the crimes include:

New York: Hours after the results of the election “Make America White Again” was spray painted on the wall of a softball stadium.
An entire cafeteria of children chanted “Build the wall!” causing children of minorities to flee fearing for their safety.
University of Michigan: A white student told a Muslim student to take off her hijab or else he’ll “set her on fire.”
Indiana: St. David’s Episcopal Church had “Hail Trump and F*** Church” painted on the walls as well as numerous swastikas. The church is known in the area for permitting same sex marriages.
New York: Many examples of swastikas have been painted throughout the city including schools, apartment complexes, and churches.
Pennsylvania: Black students at the University of Pennsylvania were added to a GroupMe chat messaging app. The contents of that chat were extremely racist and even called for daily lynching of black students.

Hundreds maybe thousands more hate crimes go unreported. But on the bright side, Trump has finally addressed the hate crimes in 60 Minutes interview. He seemed shocked and appalled that hate crimes were on the rise. Trump says he is “saddened to hear that” despite just months ago he encouraged his fans to attack minorities during one of his rallies and even said he’ll pay for legal fees for anyone who gets in trouble doing so. On 60 minutes he tells the people who commit hate crimes in his name to “stop it.” Hopefully now that the fate of the country rests on his shoulders he now realizes the magnitude of his mistakes and will work to unify the nation as he claims he will.
