When the final Harry Potter movie was released it was a bittersweet moment. The boy who lived that everyone fell in love with finally got his final chapter. But a ray of hope shown when supplement books were released. One very short almost textbook-like book was called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. A required text in the main books it has taken a life of its own. J.K. Rowling partnered with Warner Bros. to create a spinoff movie that is actually a prequel to Harry Potter and his adventures.

Fantastic Beasts was originally announced as a series and people thought it would be a trilogy but J.K Rowling has confirmed a different story.

“We’ve now done the plotting properly, and we’re pretty sure it’s gonna be five movies.”

J.K. Rowling continued to assure fans on twitter that there were not going to be 3, not 4, but 5 movies in store for them.

For those that don’t know, the movie will explore the time before Voldemort even came into power. The protagonist, Newt Scamander, is a visitor from the UK to 1920s America. As you find out, the magical community is very different from that in the UK during this time period. While the UK always had an understanding and some form of cooperation between wizards and muggles, the two communities are completely cut off in America. The magical community is either hidden or persecuted. Constant fear of war between the two communities hangs over every moment of the past. It is a very different history and feeling compared to the Harry Potter you know.

J.K. Rowling also tells fans that the story will involve the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, the greatest dark wizard in history until Voldemort came along. She even reveals that Dumbledore once loved the dark wizard. How that will play into the movie we’ll just have to wait and find out.
