Donald Trump has said countless times that one of the best reasons that he would be a great president is because he is an accomplished businessman. He continuously touts his multi-billion dollar empire as a model for how he’ll build up the country. While it is true that he does have a lot of money, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s because he’s a great businessman. Hillary Clinton is pushing for Donald Trump to make his tax records public information. She is convinced that if he does, the public will see that he doesn’t pay income taxes which is one of the reason why he has so much, not because of his financial prowess.

It might be sour grapes, but she does have a point. The only tax record that Trump has made public were in the 1970s and they showed that he found a loophole that let him report a negative income, meaning he didn’t pay any taxes. Other than Clinton, media outlets have also asked about his tax records. He has previously claimed, “It’s none of your business. You’ll see it when I release, but I fight very hard to pay as little tax as possible.” If Trump doesn’t release his tax records before the election, he’ll be the first candidate in several decades not to do so. Previously, Trump has claimed he is not releasing his records because he is being audited by the IRS. Since then, the IRS has clarified stating there is no rule that says he cannot make his records public while undergoing an audit. Trump not releasing his records just seems a bit fishy.
